Maulana Fazlur Rehman takes aim at military, judiciary

Fazlur Rehman, military, judiciary, establishment, NA dissolution

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) head Maulana Fazlur Rehman has taken aim at the military and judiciary after the failure of the joint opposition’s strategy to get desired results from the no-trust move against Prime Minister Imran Khan and the dissolution of the National Assembly (NA).

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while being interviewed by senior journalist Asma Shirazi, censured the judiciary and military establishment for their alleged roles in the failure of the no-trust move against PM Imran Khan and the dissolution of the National Assembly.

The PDM head and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) supremo said that the military establishment should clarify its position now, otherwise, he will reveal everything. “If someone tells us not to talk against the military and judiciary, then I will do it for this country. We will not compromise on Pakistan, democracy and Islam.”

Fazlur Rehman said that he could not stay quiet if Islam, democracy and the Constitution of the country are being slaughtered in front of him.

While criticising the top generals, the senior politician said how many times generals slaughtered the Constitution of Pakistan. He added that he had experienced such actions several times in his life. He then asked the military to clarify its position on the current political situation.

“They are our brothers. They are possessing the same Pakistani national identity cards. We are all Pakistanis.” He added that no one could be considered above the law like an alien. He threatened that he will go to reveal the names of the officials possessing key positions in the national institutions that could be involved in the ‘conspiracy’ behind the dissolution of the NA.

Political analysts said that Fazlur Rehman’s demand from the military establishment was still vague as to what he was trying to establish and seek clarification on the specific political scenario in the country. They said that the military establishment remained neutral in the whole political episode which was needed in all democratic setups but the politicians kept attempting to drag them into mainstream politics.

They also expressed surprise over Fazlur Rehman’s criticism launched against the judiciary despite the fact that the opposition parties moved to the Supreme Court (SC) against the dissolution of the National Assembly, on the other hand, the PDM head is now using a threatening tone against the judiciary for not staying silent.

Analysts said that if the opposition including Fazlur Rehman has concerns over the impartiality of the judiciary, why they shouldn’t withdraw the petition against the deputy speaker’s ruling to take to the street against the political developments in the country.
