Media compromises impartiality during PM Imran Khan’s Islamabad march

Pakistani media has compromised impartiality on covering and analysing embattled PM Imran Khan’s massive public gathering in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani media has compromised impartiality on covering and analysing embattled Prime Minister Imran Khan’s massive public gathering in Islamabad.

Some journalists were found claiming the hurdles deliberately created by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) organisers during PM Imran Khan’s Islamabad march.

The journalists who are critics of the PTI regime claimed that they faced troubles covering the Parade Ground public gathering while others were making different claims regarding the number of participants attending the March 27 show.

Why all institutions have tiff with media?

Senior anchorperson Hamid Mir retweeted a video in which a Geo News woman journalist, Maryam Nawaz Khan, was surrounded and stopped for covering the PTI rally in Islamabad at the venue. He wrote that at least one of the PTI activists is there to stop the mistreatment.

Adeel Raja wrote on Twitter, “Geo News saying private media not allowed but only their anchor is inside.. what coverage ban are they talking about?”

Kamran Yousaf said that he and a fellow journalist spent three hours at the venue. He added that the rally was attended by 45,000 to 60,000.

Syed Talat Hussain said on Twitter, “Final intel count. 40,000 plus including those on the road outside the main gate.”

Asad Ali Toor claimed, “#BREAKING: Intelligence bureau say 15,000 and Special Branch claims 20,000 headcount present “inside” the venue of parade ground for listening speech of PM Imran Khan.”

In a special transmission of ARY News, a senior anchorperson Arshad Sharif had left the show after being refused to give appropriate time for completing his arguments by fellow anchorperson Waseem Badami.

On the other hand, the pro-government journalists had also been seen making claims regarding the success of the PTI rally, regardless of covering some untoward incidents with some journalists who reached there to cover the power show.
