Milk Rates in Karachi Soar Right Before Ramzan

Dairy farmers say the people who want to purchase milk at official rates could buy it from commissioner’s office

Before the advent of Ramzan, the dairy farmers of Karachi have arbitrarily increased the milk rates to Rs 130 per liter.

The price of milk per liter has been set at Rs 94 by the Karachi administration.

However, the dairy farmers refused to sell daily-use product at official rates.

They said the people who want to purchase milk at official rates could buy it from the commissioner’s office.

With the latest hike in the rate, the difference between the official and unofficial rates stands at Rs 36 per liter.

Notably, the people of Karachi have not been sold milk at official rates over the past years and a massive hike is witnessed every year with the advent of Ramzan.

The price control committees of the local administration are inactive and have not responded to the hike. The price magistrates have turned a blind eye to the issue.

The locals of Karachi have called for immediate action against the increase amid the pandemic.
