Railways Minister Azam Khan Swati termed corruption as the biggest problem of the department and thus raised serious questions on the performance of ex-minister Sheikh Rashid who remained in the office for over years.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani along with Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati inaugurated ‘Safari Tourist Train’ at Golra Railway Station on Sunday.
The train will chug from Golra Station to Hassan Abdal, Attock Khurd, and Attock City every Sunday.
Railways Minister Swati expressed that some black sheep in the department do not let the honest officials work and do corruption which is the biggest problem of the department. However, he added that such unscrupulous elements are being identified.
Recalling the resolve of Prime Minister Imran Khan against corruption, Swati said eradication of corruption was the priority of the incumbent government.

“We have been instructed to follow and a pick and choose the policy for the corrupt and many officials in the department have been sacked”.
The minister told News360 that the operations of rail freight transport would be resumed soon. “The blood in the veins of railways has run dry’, he referred to the poor condition of Pakistan railways.
Defining the mantra of success, Swati said the department would only grow when the laborers and officials received good salaries and incentives.
Federal Railways Minister emphasized that corruption is done when the workers are underpaid.
‘The railways cannot become self-reliant until it is run on commercially, he opined.
“How can a laborer run his household expenses in Rs 18,000 monthly”, Swati noted.
