Mismanagement of PML-N govt intensifies power crisis

The PTI government was successfully managing the loadshedding despite the closure of power plants.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former energy minister Hammad Azhar has exposed the mismanagement of the present government which intensified the power crisis in the country.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed to operationalise all power plants to end the worst loadshedding in the country. Analysts say that the problem is not making the power plants operational but it is about the mismanagement of the present government.

The PTI government was successfully managing the loadshedding despite the closure of power plants. The electricity shortfall has now reached 7,800 megawatts.

Yesterday, an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of the premier on loadshedding and overcoming the energy crisis.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for Petroleum Musaddiq Malik, Minister for Energy Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb, MNA Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Public Policy / Strategic Communications Fahad Hussain. The current power requirement in Pakistan has estimated at 29,000 to 30,000 MW while the total generation of this power is 21,213 MW, which clearly means that the power shortfall is close to 7,800 MW.

At present, 5,430 MW of electricity is being generated from hydropower while government thermal plants are generating 1,705 MW. In addition, the total generation of private sector power plants is about 10,241 MW.
Similarly, 1629 MW is being generated from wind power plants, 113 MW from solar, 120 MW from biogas plants and 2275 MW from nuclear power plants.

Reacting to the ongoing power shortfall across the country and the actions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former Federal Minister Hamad Azhar wrote in a message on the social networking site Twitter that “the current energy crisis was caused by the PML-N.

There are expensive power plants running on imported fuel. Today, the Noon League is shutting them down because running these plants will make electricity even more expensive. ”

He further wrote that “despite the wrong plan of Noon League, the PTI government did not allow load shedding.”
Analysts say that the problem is not whether the power plants are running or not, the problem is the mismanagement of the PML-N. Even during the PTI government, those plants were shut down, but they managed the load shedding with their best strategy.

Analysts say that even if the closed power plants are running, where will they get the fuel from, because if there was fuel, the running plants would solve the problem. He said that the longest load shedding in the country has opened the floodgates of performance of the Shehbaz Sharif government.

Analysts further say that former federal minister Hamad Azhar is taking grades correctly because his government had managed the load shedding despite the closure of plants. The problem is not running or shutting down the plant, the real problem is that you are not getting the management right.
