Muhammad Zubair opposes registration of terrorism case against Imran Khan

PML-N's Muhammad Zubair opposed the registration of a terrorism case against PTI chairman and former PM Imran Khan over his statements.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) central leader and former Sindh governor, Muhammad Zubair has opposed the registration of a terrorism case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan over his statements.

While talking to TRTWorld, Muhammad Zubair expressed his views that he does not think Imran Khan’s statements were threats and opposed the registration of the case under the anti-terrorism act (ATA) against the former prime minister. However, Imran Khan’s tone was threatening regarding a female judge in the context of Pakistani society and it was also sexist from that standpoint, he added.

“Whether the person who is being threatened in a huge public gathering, it will be interpreted in different ways,” said Zubair. The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader said that they have examples of such threatening language in the past. In 2014, some police officers and senior bureaucrats were beaten up after such threatening statements, said Muhammad Zubair.

He, however, admitted that he would not have suggested instituting terrorism charges in the case. Zubair was of the view that Imran Khan was also facing other cases like corruption charges and he would face the music for his wrongdoings, however, he expressed his doubts on the veracity of the terrorism charges against the PTI chief.

Govt advances to arrest Imran Khan after lodging terrorism case

It should be noted that a case was registered against the PTI Chairman under Section 7 of Terrorism in Margalla police station. The text of the FIR said that Imran Khan threatened the Additional Sessions Judge, IG Islamabad and DIG.

The day after the case was registered, the Islamabad High Court granted three-day bail to Imran Khan and ordered him to approach the Anti-Terrorism Court.

Yesterday, a special anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted interim bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and stopped the police from arresting him in the terrorism case.
