Govt, opposition hint at advancing on NAB chairman’s names

Nab chairman government opposition names

ISLAMABAD: The federal government and the opposition sides have hinted at advancing on the appointment of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman.

Reports suggested a development on the appointment of NAB chairman as the opposition and government sides exchanged names for the top position of the anti-corruption watchdog.

However, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain rubbished the reports, saying on Twitter that the government did not suggest any name for the NAB chairman.

He said that the media reports regarding the development were incorrect as a decision will be taken on the names after holding consultations in the coming days.

It was learnt that the names of retired and serving bureaucrats, former judge of the Supreme Court (SC) are being considered for the NAB top position as the government is mulling over the names of ex-FIA DG Mohammad Aamlish, interior secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar and Captain Retired Sardar Ijaz Ahmed Khan Jaffer, whereas, the opposition proposed Nasir Saeed Khan Khosa, Salman Siddique, Jalil Abbas Jillani and Justice Retired Dost Mohammad Khan.

It may be noted here that Justice Retired Javed Iqbal had been permitted to continue his duties as the NAB chairman following the NAB Amendment Ordinance.

The Ministry of Law and Justice had forwarded a summary to President Dr Arif Alvi, signalling a formal process to initiate the process for appointing the NAB chairman.
