Nacta drafts first-ever National Counter Violent Extremism Policy
Nacta drafts NCVEP 2021 and presents to interior minister for its approval
ISLAMABAD: The first-ever National Counter Violent Extremism Policy of Pakistan (NCVEP 2021) has been drafted by the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta).
After holding consultations with different segments of society including academics, journalists, experts and members of civil society, the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta) drafted Pakistan’s first National Counter Violent Extremism Policy which was presented to the Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed for its approval.
According to the authority’s national coordinator Mehr Khaliq Dad Lak, the consultation process with the provinces took three months before finalising the policy by Nacta’s researchers and experts.
It was learnt that the counter-terrorism authority had approached over 250 contacts and stakeholders from the federal and provincial governments to input their opinion.
It is important to mention here that the institution had assisted the revision of the National Action Plan (NAP) in August with the consultation of stakeholders.
The institution had been tasked to formulate a policy to counter violent extremism in the revised NAP of the country.
The new policy has two parts that define the plan of NCVEP 2021’s implementation and institutionalisation besides highlighting the roles and responsibilities of the implementers and stakeholders. It will also cover the portion of performance evaluation under the prescribed targets.
