The report of the medical board formed on the directives of the Sindh Health Department has revealed that the girl Dua Zahra, who got married from Karachi to Lahore, is over 15 and under 16 years of age.
Dua Zehra’s father Mehdi Ali Kazmi had filed a petition to determine the age of his daughter. On the orders of Judicial Magistrate Sharqi, the Sindh Health Department had constituted a 10-member medical board which submitted its report before the Judicial Magistrate yesterday.
The case of Dua Zahra, the centre of public attention, took another turn when a 10-member medical board submitted its report to the court.
The Sindh Health Department had formed a 10-member medical board comprising expert doctors to determine the age of Dua Zahra. The Medical Board was headed by Dr Saba Sohail, Principal Professor, Dow Medical.
According to the medical board’s report submitted to the court, Dua Zahra is between 15 and 16 years old. Not 17 or 18 years old. For three days, the medical board conducted medical examinations of different parts of Dua Zahra at Services Hospital.
On July 2, X-rays were also taken of various parts o/ Dua Zahra’s body. Dua Zahra’s teeth, wrists and elbows were tested. According to the dental report, Dua Zahra is between 13 and 15 years of age, while an examination of the bones has revealed that Dua Zahra is between 16 and 17 years of age.
It is to be noted that Dua Zahra, a missing girl from Karachi, had stated several times that she was 18 years old and had voluntarily married a boy named Zaheer Ahmed.
According to Sindh and Punjab law, a girl or a boy under 16 is not allowed to get married.
After the arrival of the new medical report, the parents are optimistic about Dua Zahra’s coming home, whereas, social media users have made “Arrest Zaheer Ahmed” a trend on Twitter.
However, analysts say that despite the arrival of a new medical report, the matter does not appear to be resolved, as the Sindh High Court has allowed Dua Zahra to lead a life of her choice.
