NICVD Hospital Brings Artificial-Heart Patient Closer to Death

The hospital has been a center of tussle since PTI government decided to take its control which was vehemently opposed by ruling party of Sindh

The rift between two groups in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) has brought an artificial heart patient on the verge of death.

The hospital has been a center of tussle since the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government decided to take its control that was vehemently opposed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) which rules Sindh province.

The family of Banaras told he underwent artificial heart implantation surgery in July 2018.

The surgery was performed by Dr Pervaiz Chaudhry who was expelled by the management after which he held a fiery press conference to highlight the abysmal state of affairs and errant appointments in the hospital.

The patient’s family told News360 that an infection had developed in his body which was affecting the working of artificial heart.

As of now, there is no eligible doctor at NICVD who could look into Banras’ case.

The cardiac patient had suffered multiple cardiac arrests in 2010, 2016 and 2017.

He made rounds to different hospitals but all of them refused to conduct heart bypass and suggested only-medicine treatment to him.

The video shows Banaras’s views when he got a mechanical heart implanted in 2018 by Dr Pervaiz Chaudhry.

The patient’s family said the hospital management was not transferring Banaras to another hospital too and it had made it an ego problem.

NICVD management refused to give comments on the matter when News360 correspondent approached it.

A number of doctors and staffers have bid farewell to the cardiac treatment facility to avoid being part of the political tussle.
