No-confidence motion: PML-Q shows its cards to opposition

PML-Q has shown its cards to the opposition that ramps up efforts to bring a no-confidence motion against government.

LAHORE: The ally party of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Centre and Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) has shown its cards to the opposition that ramps up efforts to bring a no-confidence motion against the incumbent government.

The PML-Q has shown its importance to the opposition that is near finalising a no-confidence move strategy against the PTI-led federal government.

It may be noted here that a delegation of PML-Q led by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi met Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House, Lahore on Wednesday (yesterday).

In another development yesterday, the opposition parties had formed a joint committee to finalise the strategy of no-confidence motion after considering to oust Speaker National Assembly (NA) in the first phase of giving the first blow to the ruling party in the Centre.

Opposition reluctant to bring no-confidence motion against PTI govt

Sources told News360 that PML-Q sought the position of Punjab chief minister in return for backing the no-confidence motion of the opposition parties. Sources added that PML-Q has claimed for having the support of 11 members of the National Assembly (MNAs).

Analysts said that PML-Q will become a trump card for the opposition and the PTI government if its claims for having the support of 11 MNAs as the opposition fell short of at least 10 NA lawmakers to get its no-confidence motion successful.

They added that PML-Q’s support to the no-trust move to get chief ministership in Punjab would also go in favour of the ruling PTI as it will further expose and dent the opposition’s public reputation.

Opposition’s committee

The opposition parties had constituted a high-powered committee after an important meeting between Asif Ali Zardari, Shehbaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman held at the PML-N president’s Model Town residence yesterday.

Reluctancy of opposition parties

According to News360, the opposition parties have seemed reluctant to bring a no-confidence motion against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government as the final date was not given by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and major opposition parties in Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) as yet.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif along with a delegation had visited Bilawal House, Lahore where he held a meeting with Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PPP central leaders.

The meeting was also attended by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) parliamentary leader Maulana Asad Mehmood, former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gillani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former Punjab governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, Rukhsana Bangash, former KP chief minister Akram Khan Durrani and others.

Resignations from assemblies

The opposition parties have stepped up efforts to bring a no-confidence motion against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led federal government with much deliberations on choosing different options and strategies.

However, the opposition parties, in general, ruled out the option to resign from the assemblies despite having a majority in the parliament but they have decided to ramp up efforts to choose the appropriate time and gain the support of the PTI government ally parties.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is busy in preparations for its upcoming long march in Islamabad on February 27 besides giving suggestions to the opposition parties gathered under the flag of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
