No major breakthrough in MQM-PPP talks so far

MQM-P and PPP have not witnessed a major breakthrough in talks on different issues including the crucial amendments to the Local Government (LG) Act.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have not witnessed a major breakthrough in talks on different issues including the crucial amendments to the Local Government (LG) Act.

MQM-P Rabita Committee met on Thursday night after holding talks with PPP leaders in which they discussed LG Act amendments. It was learnt that MQM-P will forward recommendations to the ruling PPP in phases.

Khawaja Izharul Hassan expressed hopes that PPP will implement MQM’s recommendations. He confirmed that some progress was seen in the first round of talks.

According to ARY News, the Rabita Committee members reviewed the strategy for upcoming by-polls and local government (LG) elections. The MQM-P RC members also discussed the weaknesses in party policy, decision making and organisational structure. The MQM-P leaders recommended to maintain contact with the dissident activities and voters at the earliest.

The MQM-P central leaders took the RC members into confidence regarding the implementation of the political agreements with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the recent meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The RC members were apprised about the party leaders’ meeting with the PPP to discuss the summary related to the LG Act, non-implementation of Article 140A and strategy for enforcing a strong municipal system.

The MQM-P demanded PPP to include its recommendations in the draft LG Act.

On the other hand, another video message from MQM founder Altaf Hussain surfaced on social media in which he praised his followers to boycott NA-237 and NA-239 by-elections.
