Opposition faces split over finalising date of no-confidence motion

Opposition parties have split up over finalising the exact date and other matters related to no-confidence motion against PTI government.

ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties have once again split up over finalising the exact date and other matters related to no-confidence motion against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

The division among opposition parties has exposed as they failed to give the exact date of the no-confidence motion against the PTI.

It emerged that Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) made announcement to bring a no-confidence motion within 48 hours and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) gave 5-day ultimatum to the PTI government. PPP wants other opposition parties to bring the no-confidence motion after its long march reaches Islamabad.

Moreover, the opposition leaders did not give any specific direction whether the no-confidence motion will be brought against the National Assembly speaker or the premier except PDM head Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s announcement yesterday to bring a no-trust move against Prime Minister Imran Khan. However, PPP and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) have not publically endorsed the decision.

The opposition leaders have also seemed undecided over the strategy after the no-confidence as they are still mulling over the plan to handle political challenges in case of dissolution of assemblies for a reelection.

PM Imran Khan remained calm over the political developments as he did only one political engagement yesterday by meeting Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) central leader Moonis Elahi.

After the meeting, Moonis Elahi tweeted that PML-Q will keep it’s promises.

Analysts said that the recent developments have clarified that PML-Q will remain an ally of the PTI government with 5 lawmakers. However, the other allies including Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) lawmakers could change their decisions.

They added that Jahangir Tareen group cound also support the no-confidence motion against the PTI government.
