All avenues of dissolution of the Punjab Assembly are closed as Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman has instructed Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to take a vote of confidence.

On the other hand, the opposition parties submitted a no-confidence motion against Punjab CM Pervaiz Elahi, PA speaker and deputy speaker.

According to the instructions, the Punjab governor Punjab Balighur Rehman asked CM Pervaiz Elahi to take a vote of confidence from the assembly on Wednesday, December 21 at 4 pm.

The governor said that as the governor, he agrees that the chief minister has lost the confidence of the majority of the House, therefore, under Article 130 (7) of the Constitution, on Wednesday, December 21, at 4 pm, the Punjab Assembly I call for a session in which the chief minister takes a vote of confidence.

For many days, there were rumours circulating in the print and electronic media that CM Pervaiz Elahi has lost the trust of his party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and his party members.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) submitted a no-confidence motion against the Punjab CM, Speaker Punjab Assembly Sibtain Khan and Deputy Speaker Wasiq Abbasi in the Punjab Assembly.

At 9:50 PM, Advisor to the Prime Minister Attaullah Tarar along with Parliamentary Leader Syed Hasan Murtaza, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Ghazali Saleem Butt, Tahir Khalil Sandhu and others submitted it to the assembly’s secretariat. Assembly Secretary Inayatullah Lak received the motion of no-confidence from them.

After submitting the no-confidence motion, Attaullah Tarar along with the MPAs told the media that he has just heard from some sources that the governor asked the chief minister for a vote of confidence at 8:40 pm.

“When we signed the Democracy Charter, we also decided to allow the assemblies to complete their time,” he added.

He said that when the no-confidence motion is submitted, the assemblies cannot be dissolved. The chief minister will have to take the vote of confidence on December 21, 2022, at 4 pm.

PPP Parliamentary Leader Syed Hasan Murtaza told the media, “I want to tell my brothers who used to ask what is going to happen. What Zardari, Shahbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif and allies want will happen.

Who will be the Chief Minister, then the alliance will decide after the vote of confidence, they have to complete the vote, not us.

Tarar further said that all the MPs want the assemblies not to be dissolved and no individual has the right to dissolve the assemblies for his own pleasure.
