CSS Officer Asks Married Women to Save Themselves

“If a woman is unhappy the way I was, I think she should have the option to make an amicable exit and try to find happiness in another marriage”

Pakistani women are speaking up against the domestic violence that in many cases leads to death just like the mother of 4 children Quratulain who was beaten to death by her husband in Hyderabad.

Kulsume Hai, the founder of Panaah NGO and part of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), shared the story of how she carried on life after parting ways with her husband with whom she didn’t get along.

It was revealed in Quratulain’s case that during her 10 years of marriage, she returned to her parents’ house multiple times but was always sent back to save the marriage.

Eventually, she was assaulted to death by her husband Umar Memon and left her children bereaved.

Kulsume Hai opined that divorce shouldn’t be considered a stigma if the spouses could not get along with each other.

“If a woman is unhappy the way I was, I think she should have the option to make an amicable exit and try to find happiness in another marriage”, the Panaah founder wrote in a reply to a comment.

Kulsume Hai shared that she was also twice sent back to her husband by her parents in 2001 and 2004. She had a daughter and decided to become independent.

Kulsume passed Central Superior Service (CSS) exam in 2005 which enabled her to give a better lifestyle to her daughter.

In 2012, the Panaah founder got divorced but being independent, she could go to her own home.

She urged the women to fight back to save themselves so that they don’t meet the same fate as Quratulain.
