Pakistan’s 2020 Corruption Ranking Jumps Back to 2015

According to the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2020, Pakistan’s ranking is 124 out of 180 countries, Pakistan had the same corruption rate in 2015 when Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML-N was in power; the rate has plummeted drastically.

The report was released by Transparency International (TI), an international non-governmental organization based in Berlin.

The (CPI) is an index published annually by Transparency International (IT) which ranks countries by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys.

Pakistan’s ranking is among dozens of nations where the perceived corruption rate has plummeted significantly in 2020 over the past years.

On a scale of zero (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean), Pakistan was assigned a score of 31 in 2020 which shows that the corruption rate has gone up during the prevailing PTI’s government.

In 2015 during the government of PML-N, the CPI score was 30 which shows that the corruption level in the country has increased when compared to the figures in 2015.

In a blow to the credibility of the ruling PTI, Pakistan’s ranking on the global corruption perception index has slipped to a five-year low of 124 out of 180 nations.

The nation’s confidence in the present Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan which came into power with the slogan of accountability has shaken after the report has been released.

Pakistan’s corruption ranking in 2020 has plummeted significantly over the past years, said Transparency International’s latest CPI report, released on Thursday.
