Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has realized that it was playing into the hands of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) on the Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA) issue.
The working journalists were on the roads against the proposed media authority, although the government kept asserting that it was for the protection of their rights.

PMDA Bill to go Under Scrutiny of Stakeholders
As the recommendations in the bill were publicized, it came to the fore that most of the proposals were in favor of the working journalists and it tends to bind the media owners more.
The new authority also aimed at protecting the rights of the workers who get sacked and do not receive salaries for months.
But, the journalists lent a deaf ear to what the related ministers were saying and continued protest against PMDA.
After backlash, the government agreed to establish a joint committee of stakeholders to review PMDA bill which the media workers say suppress their freedom.
PFUJ representatives had categorically said that they did not oppose the bill but just wanted to discuss recommendations.
Now, with the entry of big players like PBA in the discussion on the PMDA bill, PFUJ fears being sidelined.
