Govt Reaffirms to Convert PM House Into University
The proposal to utilize the residence for commercial purposes amid the financial crunch drew criticism and was termed swerving from the promise
Clearing up confusion, Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) government reaffirmed its commitment to convert the Prime Minister (PM) house into a modern university.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had vacated the PM house after assuming the charge in 2019 in light of his electoral promise of converting the residence into a higher educational institution.

To make PM house meet its own expenditures for official purposes, the media reports said that the government has decided to rent it out for cultural, educational, and other kinds of events.
However, the proposal paved the way for the critics and they lambasted the PTI government for retracting from its decision of converting the residence into a university.
But, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill took to his Twitter handle to clear up the confusion.
He reaffirmed Imran Khan’s commitment to convert the PM House into a modern university.

The special assistant said that the proposal to utilize the residence for commercial purposes was separate from the varsity’s project.
Besides criticism, the proposal has been received well too.
Some users commented that utilizing the residence for commercial purposes would be an unprecedented step.
They said that the measure would ease some burden on the national treasury amid the financial crisis country is going through due to the coronavirus situation.
