PM Shehbaz gives federal minister’s status to opposition MNA Noor Alam Khan
PM Shehbaz Sharif has appointed PAC chairman and an MNA Noor Alam Khan 'federal minister'.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman and a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Noor Alam Khan ‘federal minister’.
In an apparent move to irk political rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), PM Shehbaz Sharif appointed Khan federal minister. A notification was also issued in this regard.
Analysts said that it will be witnessed for the first time that an opposition leader has been given the status of a federal minister by the government.
The notification read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by rule 15(1) read with serial No. 1A of Schedule-VA of the Rules of Business, 1973, the Prime Minister has been pleased to confer the status of Federal Minister on Mr. Noor Alam Khan, Chairman, Public Accounts Committee, with effect from 14th October, 2022.”

Noor Alam Khan – a sitting lawmaker from Peshawar – is considered a strong opponent of Imran Khan-led PTI. He is a dissident lawmaker of PTI who won the elections on PTI ticket but later changed his loyalty.
In January, Khan had been served a show-cause notice by the ruling political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) besides being withdrawn as a government member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
MNA Noor Alam Khan had been issued a show-cause notice by the ruling PTI for censuring his own party leaders on the floor of the National Assembly (NA).
It may be noted here that Noor Alam Khan had been elected as an MNA in 2008 on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ticket. In 2013, he had joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and was elected as an MNA once again followed by another win in the 2018 general election.
