PML-N and PDM Partners Repel on Resignations

PML-N is the only party in PDM coalition showing resolve and resignations from its lawmakers are pouring in as others show reservations

It is only Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) that is enthusiastically implementing the decisions taken by the 11-opposition parties’ coalition, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), to overthrow the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government while others seem reluctant as they doubt en masse resignations may be futile.

Other major parties of the anti-government alliance seem a bit reluctant to proceed on the path to derail the government as they deal with different circumstances on the party levels.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is ruling in the Sindh province therefore it wants to take more of a parliamentary course to oust the PTI government such as lobbying for a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan rather than opting for en masse resignations to throw the premier out of power.

The decision of resignations until December 31 came out in the PDM’s leaders meeting held on December 8.

It was agreed that the parliamentarians from all opposition parties in the coalition would submit their resignations with the party leadership until the end of the current month as the alliance wanted to pressurize the government as stepping into the new year.

However, as presumed earlier, the submission of resignations taken by the PDM coalition has not received the same response from major opposition parties such as PPP or even Jamiat-e-Ulema Fazl (JUI-F) except PML-N.

Only PML-N has received resignations from its MPAs and MNAs since the decision day while PPP and JUI-F have just opened their accounts with little deposits.

Meanwhile, the former prime minister and senior PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gilani told the media on Thursday that the party chairman has restricted PPP leaders to talk about en masse resignations till the meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

PDM Leaders in Lahore Give Resignations Another Chance

The decision from Bilawal Bhutto came out after the reservations on en masse resignations of parliamentarians gained momentum with the party.

Moreover, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will meet today to finalize affairs and the line of action to be taken in the PDM rally in Lahore on Sunday.

Those who keep an eye on the national politics are looking forward to the meeting to see if Maryam Nawaz succeeds to persuade the PPP leader to show the same resilience as her party to put the PTI government to inconvenience.
