ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has intensified its anti-judiciary campaign after the Supreme Court’s (SC) ruling in the favour of Pervaiz Elahi and nullified the election of Hamza Shahbaz as the Punjab Chief Minister (CM).

Last night, the Supreme Court (SC) declared Hamza Shahbaz’s oath illegal and ordered him to leave office immediately. The 11-page verdict was written by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial after a three-member bench heard the case. The top court also nullified Hamza’s provincial cabinet.

According to the SC verdict, the appointments made by Hamza Shehbaz as Punjab CM were declared null and void, whereas, the decisions in the public interest will remain intact.

Following the SC ruling, PML-N expedited launching maligning remarks against the judiciary to exhibit their outrage over the decision that came not in its favour.

Hamza Shahbaz said in a Twitter message that an elected government [of Punjab] was attacked and the court proceedings and its verdict were controversial. He criticised the rejection of the government’s request for a full court bench that did not fulfil the requirements of the justice. The PML-N leader said that the evil spirits of Justice Munir and Molvi Mushtaq were still robbing of the nation’s aspirations.

Khawaja Saad Rafique has once again targeted the judiciary and termed the SC ruling controversial. He had faced severe criticism for making obscene finger gesture against the judiciary.

PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif censured the three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) in a Twitter message, saying that they turned Pakistan into a stage drama.

In other tweets, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz termed the SC verdict ‘murder of justice’, ‘judicial coup’ while in another message, she wrote, “The government MUST take a firm stand & rise to the occasion. Rise to the occasion or fall to the status quo. Leaders are made by the situations they are confronted with.”

Prior to the verdict, the coalition government announced to boycott the court proceedings against the Supreme Court (SC) ruling for not forming a full court bench on the ruling of the deputy speaker on the election of the Punjab chief minister.
