PML-N moves LHC after coalition govt unable to bring no-trust move to PA

After Imran Khan's statement to dissolve the assemblies, there has been a stir in the political scene, but practically nothing has been done yet.

After Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) parties were unable to introduce a no-trust move in the Punjab Assembly, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) filed a petition to the Lahore High Court (LHC) for the admission of its lawmakers.

After the statement of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to dissolve the assemblies, there has been a stir in the political scene, but practically nothing has been done yet.

The PML-N also consulted with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for which several meetings were held to finalise the strategy.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the federal government, whereas, in Punjab, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif held a consultation session with the Parliamentary Leader of the Punjab Assembly Hasan Murtaza in which political scenario, number game on the issue of dissolution of the assembly and other legal options were discussed in detail.

However, completing the numbers game required to move the no-confidence motion and make it successful is also a difficult task for the PDM parties.

On the other hand, the PML-N approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) for an early hearing of the petitions against the election of the Speaker Punjab Assembly and the ban on the entry of its lawmakers to the provincial assembly.

PML-N Deputy Secretary General Attaullah Tarar said that Pervaiz Elahi is running the province like it is a Gujrat district council.

A separate application for an early hearing of the petitions was also filed by former provincial minister Rana Mashhood and other MPs in which they stated that the pleas are pending since October 27. There is a fear that justice will be defeated by delaying the hearing on them. Therefore, the pleas should be heard at the earliest, it stated.

While talking to the media, Tarar said that Imran Khan is trying to become a blue-eyed person of the powerful circles besides running a trend against them. He criticised that he had once offered an indefinite extension while Pervaiz Elahi is hiding behind stay orders after the surfacing of scandals against him.

On this occasion, PML-N MPA Uzma Bukhari said that the provincial assembly was considered someone’s personal property by the incumbent government in Punjab. She requested the chief justice to look into the matter. She emphasised due to the fear of dissolution of the assembly, an early hearing on the requests of PML-N is necessary.

On the other hand, if you look at the number game of the Punjab Assembly, the Leader of the House must have the support of 186 out of 371 lawmakers. It is also difficult for PML-N to complete 186 members. The current party position of the Punjab Assembly is as follows.

Government lawmakers: 190
PTI: 180
PML-Q: 10

Opposition lawmakers: 180
PML-N: 167
PPP: 7
Rai Haq Party: 1
Independent: 5

It should be noted that Chaudhry Nisar is an inactive member who is not supporting anyone.

It is also important here that the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly banned the entry of 18 PML-N lawmakers to the assembly premises.

PML-N is aware of the situation which is preventing it from the submission of the no-confidence motion.

As per legal experts, if the no-confidence motion of the opposition fails, the Chief Minister cannot be removed for the next six months.
