Split within PML-N ranks after meeting with PPP leadership
PML-N has been going through an internal split within its ranks after the central leadership met PPP top leaders.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has been going through an internal split within its ranks after the central leadership met Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) top leaders.
The opposition parties have planned to oust the incumbent government led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and decided to go ahead for achieving the goal via joint efforts, however, they have once again failed to agree on one-point agenda regarding the strategy.
The political position of PML-N has seemingly weakened after holding a meeting with PPP top leaders, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari, at a luncheon organised by its president Shehbaz Sharif.
Sources privy to the developments in the recent meeting between PML-N and PPP leaders said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari invited PML-N to join the PPP-led long march. On the other hand, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif showed conditional agreement to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s invitation if PPP converts its long march into a sit-in in Islamabad. Bilawal rejected to accept the condition.
Sources told News360 that Shehbaz Sharif was agreed to welcome PPP in Punjab during its long march. Moreover, he urged PPP leaders to bring a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly as nearly 20 PTI lawmakers are in the contact with PML-N.
To this, Asif Ali Zardari raised a question before PML-N of the reason for the opposition’s back-to-back defeats in blocking the passage of the government’s legislation in the National Assembly.
Bilawal offered PML-N to bring a no-confidence motion in Punjab then PPP will choose the option of the sit-in.
Sources told News360 that Shehbaz Sharif apprised PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif regarding the details of his meeting with PPP top leaders. Nawaz Sharif suggested Shehbaz summon a meeting of the party’s central executive committee (CEC) to review the proposals given in the meeting before taking a final decision.
Sources revealed that former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed serious reservations over the discussions in the recent meeting between PML-N and PPP.
On the other hand, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) head and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman kept a complete silence over the meeting which indicated that he was kept away from the proposals and discussions held between PPP and PML-N leaders.
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry predicted that many leaders of both opposition parties will leave their political parties, saying goodbye to the monarchy before 2023. He was of the view that the reservations of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi were just a beginning just like a senior politician Chaudhry Nisar parted his ways with the PML-N due to the unilateral decision of the Sharif family.
