Karachi Laborer Jumps Out of Skin After Notice by NAB

Akbar received a notice from NAB Rawalpindi that accused him of transferring some 200 stolen cars to Pakistan from Japan

A poor laborer in Karachi jumped out of his skin when he saw a notice sent by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that blamed him for smuggling 200 stolen cars from Japan.

Akbar, who works as a laborer and lives in settlements along Gujjar Nullah in Karachi, received a notice from NAB Rawalpindi accusing him of transferring some 200 stolen cars to Pakistan from Japan. He was summoned to the bureau’s office on June 24.

Akbar’s small unfinished house is situated near Gujjar Nullah which has three rooms where three families live which was visited by News360 correspondent.

The laborer said that he worked under all circumstances to make both ends meet for his family.

He said that neither he nor any of his family members ever traveled to Japan.

The laborer told News360 that he stayed in Saudi Arabia for 17 years but lamented that he couldn’t change the fortune of his family.

Akbar termed the notice hilarious and surprising for him as well as his family. He said that he didn’t even have the fare to travel to Rawalpindi, adding that even the motorcycle he owned wasn’t able to run.

He said that he tried contacting the telephone numbers listed in the notice but received no response.

Muhammad Akbar has invited the NAB team to visit his home for investigation and demanded a transparent probe into the matter.

The laborer demanded strict action against the elements doing corruption in the name of the poor people.

He added that stringent action should be taken against the people draining the national exchequer.

Mohammad Akbar said that he wasn’t involved in any illicit activity and offered complete cooperation to the anti-graft watchdog.
