PPP, MQM-P begin mock battle to delay Karachi, Hyderabad LG polls
MQM-P and PPP have begun a mock battle to further postpone LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad elections with the assistance of PML -N.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have begun a mock battle to further postpone local government (LG) polls in Karachi and Hyderabad elections with the assistance of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML -N) in the Centre.
In view of the expected defeat in the LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad, MQM-P threatened to part ways with the ruling parties on the basis of delimitations.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should tell whether he was standing on his promise or not.
He said that it was the responsibility of PM Sharif to play his role in the revision of the delimitations by January 15 before the LG elections. Siddiqui said that they will be free to decide whether to be in alliance with the ruling parties or not in the upcoming polls.
Siddiqui said that in the current situation, the MQM would have a lot of political loss if it chooses to stay in the alliance with the ruling parties.
After the press conference of Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister Ayaz Sadiq telephoned MQM-P’s Aminul Haq to discuss Siddiqui’s threat of separation from the government.
On the other hand, PM Shehbaz Sharif constituted a committee headed by Ayaz Sadiq to address the reservations of MQM-P. The committee will meet with the leaders of both parties at any time.
Talking to a private TV channel, Sindh Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori said that he has contacted the PPP and has asked him to remove the MQM’s reservations.
Commenting on the changing political situation in Karachi, PTI Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry said that the unity of the MQM factions will not hurt the PTI.
He jokingly said that it seems that the MQM_P leadership was taken over by the nursery children. The people of Karachi know why all these people are coming together.
Political analysts termed the MQM-P and PPP differences just a mock battle.
They said that with the popularity of the PTI, the leadership of both parties adopted new tactics to escape from the LG elections. In the current situation, if the municipal elections are held, MQM-P would bear a political loss.
Analysts added MQM-P always starts debates on delimitations to escape the elections. They said if your party is a representative party of Karachi, why do you fear the delimitation when you are in the field instead of contesting elections?
