President meets Imran Khan: Arrests of top leadership of PTI’s continue

Government also arrested Dr. Yasmin Rashid and former Federal Minister Shireen Mazari after arrests of PTI Vice Chairman, Secretary General, Senior Vice President and other leaders

President Dr. Arif Alvi had a long meeting with Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaaf Imran Khan at Police Lines Guest House. Two leaders have agreed that if Imran Khan is acquitted by Islamabad High Court today, then one more negotiation with government will be avoided, but government does not appear to be in this mood because PT at night itself. IS leader Shireen Mazari and Yasmeen Rashid have been detained.

On intervening night of Thursday and Friday, President Dr. Arif Alvi reached Police Lines Guest House to meet former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, who was released on orders of Supreme Court (SC), was shifted to Police Lines Guest House. Supreme Court had said in its order that ten to twelve people can meet with Imran Khan.

Earlier today, Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the immediate release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, terming his arrest as “illegal”.

Meeting between President and Imran Khan

According to media reports, President Dr. Arif Alvi held a long meeting with Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan for three hours. The President reached Police Lines Guest House amid tight security.

Current political situation of the country was discussed in the meeting between the two leaders. Future plans were also discussed.

President Dr. Arif Alvi also informed Imran Khan about the arrests of PTI’s senior leadership. The President expressed an investigation into the incidents and arrests in the country. Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shibli Faraz, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Qureshi and a team of lawyers were also present in the meeting.

Agreement between both leaders

Two leaders agreed that if Imran Khan gets bail from Islamabad High Court today, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf will hold a government negotiation process regarding general elections in the country.

Government attitude

However, on the other hand, there is no such positive impression coming from the side of the government which can be assumed that they also want negotiations. After the arrest of the most senior leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, late night leader of Tehreek-e-Insaf Shireen Mazari and Dr. Yasmin Rashid were also arrested.

Arrest of Shireen Mazari and Dr. Yasmin Rashid

Events took another surprising turn when authorities arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shireen Mazari and Yasmin Rashid on Friday.

Shireen Mazari, who served as the Federal Minister for Human Rights in the PTI-led government, was detained by the Islamabad Police in a raid at her residence.

It should be noted that the arrest of Dr. Shireen Mazari has been confirmed by her daughter Iman Mazari.

A message on Twitter from Iman Mazari said that around 50 policemen raided his residence and detained his mother.

On the other hand, former Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid was allegedly arrested from Lahore at 6:30 am.

The charges under which he was arrested have not yet been reported.

This follows a series of arrests of other PTI leaders, including party leader Imran Khan, who was detained on May 9 from the premises of the Islamabad High Court.

However, police officials say that the PTI leaders have been arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO).
