The Current

The annoyed and pro-Jahangir Tareen lawmakers will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan today just a day later when the premier gifted South Punjab with the foundation of a new secretariat and quota in government jobs.

According to details, some 33 lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will meet the Prime Minister Imran Khan today to share concerns on treatment with Jahangir Tareen following the sugar scandal report published in January 2020.

Notably, most of PTI lawmakers who are part of a new bloc led by PTI former secretary-general hail from South Punjab.

During his visit to Multan on April 26 in the Kisan card distribution ceremony, Prime Minister fulfilled his electoral promise by announcing to lay the foundation of the South Punjab Secretariat, the region where 33% population of the province lives.

He also unveiled multiple development projects in pipeline for Southern part of the most populated province and said that it had long been ignored.

While addressing the ceremony, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi apparently pointed towards Tareen’s sympathizers and said that people gave votes to bat not to any individuals.

The bitter saga between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its stalwart, as he claims to be until now, started after the sugar crisis inquiry report in 2020.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has not just registered cases against the former PTI secretary-general and his family members but also frozen his bank accounts.

Pro-Jahangir PTI lawmakers believe that the government and relevant agencies zeroed in on Tareen while other sugar mills’ owners discussed in the report were not being treated the same.
