KU Professor Lands in Jail For Harassing Female Teacher

Upon investigation, the accused was traced and arrested along with his broadband modem, a computer, and a mobile phone

A Karachi University (KU) Professor is sentenced to 8 years imprisonment with a fine of over Rs 1 million for harassing a female teacher on the internet.

A district court in Karachi announced the verdict against the male professor, Dr Farhan Kamrani from the department of Psychology, who was found guilty of impersonating a female colleague and committing an online offense against the modesty of a natural person and minor.

The prosecution was successful in proving the charges against the suspect who was present in the court and he was arrested.

The court awarded him 3 years imprisonment and a fine worth Rs 1 million for an offense against modesty of a natural person and minor, meanwhile, 3 years in prison plus a fine of Rs 50,000 for impersonating.

Additionally, the professor was handed down a 2-year prison term and a fine of Rs 50,000 for defamation and he will undergo collective additional imprisonment for 8 months.

As per details shared by prosecutor, a female teacher accused the professor of sharing doctored pictures and using abusive language for her.

Upon investigation, the suspect was traced and held along with his broadband modem, a computer, and a mobile phone.

The evidence was recovered from the devices and the prosecutor proved charges against the educator beyond any doubts.

The investigators contacted the Facebook authority to provide details of the fake ID from where the pictures were posted on the page of a private university of Karachi.

Whereas Dr Farhan Kamrani denied the allegations, and defence counsel maintained that his case has many loopholes.

He added that no indecent images of the complainant were shown, as alleged by the complainant, and pleaded with the court to acquit Kamrani.

Notably, the incident took place in October 2016 and the case was registered in the same year.
