PTI funding report: ECP declared dual-national donors as foreigners

Several donors of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have complained about being declared outsiders in the prohibited funding report of ECP.

Several donors of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have complained about being declared outsiders in the prohibited funding report of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) which showed dual-national citizens as foreigners.

A citizen namely Shoaib Ahmad Basra wrote on Twitter, “My company NATIONAL FRUIT PROCESSING FACTORY is Bhalwal Sargodha based local firm and donated RS 10500 in 2011 to PTI whereas ECP put this in foreign funding company from Canada.”

PTI central leader Shafqat Mahmood pointed out another mistake of the election commission in its funding report against PTI. He tweeted, “One person in this list is Murad Ansari, a Pakistani citizen, who lives in my constituency. Patriot to the core and standing by his beliefs, he contributes to national causes. This is the accuracy of such lists.”

He retweeted senior anchorperson Hamid Mir’s message having the snapshot of the list containing names of the ‘foreign nationals and companies’ who had funded PTI.

Dr Shahbaz Gill, the Chief of Staff of PTI chief Imran Khan, shared the video message of a woman who had been declared ‘foreign nationals’ on the PTI donors’ list by the ECP. He criticised that the commission has been exposed after its verdict.

The woman said in the video message, “I have been a PTI worker since 1996 and have lived in the UK for the past 20 years. I am a Pakistani, I had funded my party, but in the decision of the Election Commission yesterday, I have not been declared a Pakistani.”

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has uploaded a video of former ticket holder Mian Akhtar Javed on its official Twitter account.

Mian Akhtar Javed said “In 2013, I was a PTI ticket holder from PP-89 Pir Mahal [city of Punjab]. My company Zain Cotton Private Limited was registered in Faisalabad since 1992 and it is our family business. No one in our family is foreign national and my mother is the director of this company. We had donated Rs 10,000 to the party and my friend informed me that my name was mentioned in foreign funding.”

Murad Ansari, a dual-national has also complained about the listing of his name as foreigner in the ECP list.

Asif Khan said on social media, “What a ridiculous judgement and investigation by ECP. I donated $100 USD from my company’s PayPal account back in 2013 and I see my old company’s name ‘Probist Inc’ in the list.”
