PTI, PPP Cross Swords On Alleged Abuse With Haleem Adil

Haleem Adil was held by Sindh police on charges of violence, firing, and spreading terror during by-poll in PS-88 constituency in Malir district in Karachi

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are having a rough time over the arrest and alleged abuse with detained Haleem Adil Sheikh, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.

Haleem Adil was held by Sindh police on charges of violence, firing, and spreading terror during by-poll in PS-88 constituency in Malir district, Karachi.

The members of the ruling party tried to disrupt the National Assembly (NA) session as they wanted to raise the matter of arrest of the opposition leader.

Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed said that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was a facilitator of Zardari’s corruption.

He ordered assault and tried to kill Haleem Adil Sheikh by leaving a snake in his cell, Murad said, adding, “If someone reveals their corruption, he faces strict punishment, and snakes are left inside the jail”.

“A detained person was assaulted by sending 50 hoodlums inside the jail”, Murad Saeed said.

Amir Liaquat, PTI MNA from Karachi, commented the people who leave snakes in the rooms are Paranoahs and like him, they would perish too.

Another PTI MNA from Karachi, Faheem Khan, accused that PPP retraced security from the lawmakers just before the Malir by-poll.

He added that the legislators were attacked by the PPP goons and a deceptive first information report (FIR) was registered against Haleem Adil.

Faheem Khan alleged that the attackers were the members of the notorious Lyari Gang War.

He added that the police raided the houses of PTI workers and destroyed the sanctity of the property.

MNA Jamil Ahmed Khan said that PPP politically victimized the innocent workers of PTI.

He added that the opposition leader was arrested even though his vehicle was targetted by armed suspects.

“The whereabouts of the suspect are still unknown to this day”, Jamil Ahmed said. On February 19, Haleem Adil was awarded judicial remand by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).

On the alleged abuse in detention, Haleem Adil told he had come to Karachi’s Jinnah hospital after 50 hoodlums of PPP abused him inside Malir Jail while leveling charges on the Sindh government of torturing him and other PTI leaders in jail.

Besides this, a snake had also appeared in the cell of the opposition leader.

Haleem alleged that the serpent was deliberately left in his cell at the behest of PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah as they wanted to kill him.

However, PPP MNA Qadir Patel responded that the videos of violence of detained Haleem Adil were all over the internet.

He said, “They are the same people who mocked others (politicians) when they visited the hospitals after getting arrested”.

Asked about the snake’s emergence in the opposition leader’s prison cell, Qadir quipped, “ It’s good that only a snake emerged in the cell, not a lion or an elephant”.
