ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former prime minister Imran Khan’s aggressive politics and anti-US narrative have made an impact on national politics. A survey by the Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR) declared PTI the most popular political party in the country.

The popularity of PTI alone is 29 per cent while the combined popularity of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) is 39 per cent.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also expressed his willingness for both political parties to decide on seat adjustment in the general elections.

The IPOR survey was conducted between May 24 and June 3 and was attended by 2,000 people from across the country.

The results of the survey showed the popularity of the parties in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) dropped to 39%. In the poll, 29% of participants said they would vote for the PTI in the general election, whereas, 25% favoured voting for the PML-N and 9% said the PPP was their priority.

In the survey, 3% voted for JUI-F, 3% for Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), 2% for Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and 2% for MQM-P, while 1% said Awami National Party (ANP) was their first priority.

One per cent of those polled said they would form an opinion after reviewing the performance of political parties, whereas, seven per cent said they would not vote for any party. Meanwhile, in view of its declining popularity, PML-N has announced to contest Punjab by-elections jointly with PPP.

Talking to Shahzeb Khanzada on the Geo News program, senior PML-N leader and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that he wanted the ruling coalition to make seat adjustments in the next election as well. He expressed hopes that they will also win the by-elections on Punjab vacant seats.

He admitted that PML-N’s popularity has dropped but it will be restored as the nation knew what we have inherited.

Asif said that when the results of government initiatives start pouring in, the popularity rate of PML-N will be restored. “If we get the solution of the problems and the friendly countries help Pakistan, then the recovering the popularity is not a difficult thing.
