The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court (SC) against the decision of the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding the election of Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz.
A five-member bench of the Lahore High Court yesterday approved the petitions of PTI and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) and ordered a recount today for the election of the Punjab chief minister.
PTI senior leader Fawad Chaudhry has confirmed that an appeal has been filed in the SC and wrote on Twitter that he is hopeful that the hearing will be held today and the Punjab Assembly session will be adjourned.

It may be recalled that a five-member bench of the had yesterday ordered yesterday to conduct the recounting of votes for the election of the Punjab chief minister. The court had directed the Punjab governor to convene a meeting of the Punjab Assembly at 4 pm on Friday (today).
Punjab CM election: PA sees peculiar implementation of LHC verdicts
The court had ordered that the votes of 25 deviant members should not be counted and the PA session should not be adjourned till the election of the chief minister.
The court also directed that as soon as the recount of votes is completed and the required number is not obtained, the chief minister should be de-notified from office. After the CM is de-notified, a new chief minister will be elected and the one, who gets the most votes will become the chief minister.
The court ruled that the Punjab governor would take oath from the newly-elected chief minister without any hesitation and the governor will be bound to take the oath by 11:00 am next day.
PTI chief Imran Khan had yesterday announced to file an appeal in the top court against the decision of the high court.
