Increment in Seats on Cards in Proposed Local Govt in Punjab

The densely populated cities of Punjab having more than 10 million population will have 71 elected representatives while there will be 64 members for 5 million population

The number of public representatives in heavily amassed cities in the proposed local government system in Punjab has been increased to 71 while traders are also likely to get representation.

The densely populated cities of Punjab having more than 10 million population will have 71 elected representatives.

The local administration will be governed by a mayor while there will be 2 seats for minorities and senior citizens each, 10 for women, and 8 for workers.

Along with it, 3 seats will be reserved for youth while there will be 45 general councilor seats.

The cities amassed by 5 million people will have 64 elected representatives.

The proposed local bodies system will have 11 metropolitan corporations and 15 municipal corporations.

Besides this, there will be 133 municipal committees and 64 town committees altogether.

The proposed local government system in Punjab will have 3,468 village councils and 2,467 neighborhood councils.

Sources said 35 new district councils will be established under the new system while each district will have a local government authority.

The chairman of the district council will serve as the chairperson of the district local government authority.

The departments of health, education, social welfare, population welfare, and sports will be run by district local government authority as well.

In the provincial capital Lahore, six institutions including Lahore Development Authority (LDA), WASA, TEPA, PHA, waste management company, and parking company will merge into the metropolitan corporation.

The mayor’s powers over authorities and companies are also being determined in the new local government system.
