Former Chief Minister of Punjab filed a contempt of court petition in Lahore High Court against police operation despite security bond till May 6

Lahore High Court granted protective bail to former Punjab Chief Minister and PTI President Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in separate cases of terrorism and corruption.

He was granted anti-corruption bail till May 15 in an anti-corruption case, while he has been granted bail till May 4 in terrorism and other charges.

In its remarks, the court said that if a fresh case is filed against Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, he will file a fresh application for protective bail.

Lahore High Court judge Justice Asjad Javed Gharal heard the request of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi. During the hearing, Pervez Elahi’s lawyer claimed that the High Court had granted protective bail in the anti-corruption case on April 2, but to arrest his client, his house was raided.

A case was also registered against Parvez Elahi on terrorism and other charges in the case filed in Ghalib Market police station after the anti-corruption department raided his residence in Lahore.

The court directed Parvez Elahi to approach the concerned court for bail in the terrorism case.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi’s bail plea in the terrorism case was fixed for hearing before another bench headed by Justice Ali Baqer Najafi.

Arguing before the court, Parvez Elahi’s lawyer said that cases are being filed against his client on a daily basis, and he had already filed an application for protective bail in the terrorism case on the first day.

Punjab Government, Anti-Corruption Department, Ghalib Market Police Station, and others were made parties in the petition.

The lawyer of the petitioner said that my client should be given an opportunity to approach the concerned court in the said case. Therefore, I request the High Court to grant advance bail to my client to approach the court.

The petition also requested the High Court to restrain the police from arresting and harassing Parvez Elahi.

Petition for contempt of court

Apart from this, former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi also filed a contempt of court petition in the Lahore High Court. In the petition, the position was taken that despite the court orders, an operation was conducted by the police to arrest him.

Inspector General Police Punjab, Director General Anti-Corruption, and others have been made parties in the petition.

Pervez Elahi told the court that he was granted protective bail till May 6, yet the police launched an operation to arrest him. He said that this attempt of the police clearly falls under the category of contempt of court.

In the petition filed by Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, it has been requested that the court order contempt of court proceedings against the Punjab Police chief and others.
