PML-N stalwart and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah favoured fresh elections and PTI Chairman Imran Khan's arrest but not by the government.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has favoured fresh elections and the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan but not by the government.
In an interesting statement during an interview with Hum News’ anchorperson Mohammad Malick, Rana Sanaullah has been questioned regarding the government’s strategy if they are not in favour of retaining rulership then why they are not leaving the premiership after allies are not agreeing with them.
Responding to the question, Sanaullah admitted that the people are facing extreme difficulties and having outrage over the inflation, especially after getting inflated electricity bills and he also talked about the miseries of the masses with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He suggested that they should decide on fresh elections in the current circumstances.

Mohammad Malick questioned Sanaullah regarding the government’s plan for arresting PTI chief Imran Khan. The anchorperson also criticised the interior minister for repeating the same tactics used by the PTI government against the then opposition by registering cases and arresting the opposition leaders.
To this, Sanaullah replied that fake cases were filed against PML-N leaders which should be dissolved. Regarding the case filed against him, Sanaullah said that Khan must tender an apology for his shameful actions to target political rivals instead of repeatedly making claims of merit-based decisions.
He further said, “If you are telling us to arrest him. We will not arrest him. NAB [National Accountability Bureau] should arrest him but we will not ask the NAB to arrest him like Shahzad Akbar did this in the past by urging the institution for making arrests.”
The interior minister said, “The anti-corruption watchdog is a reputed and independent institution and the government will not pressurise the NAB to open or shut cases against anyone including us. The NAB is independent to open or shut cases and we will not pressurise it.”

“The NAB chairman is also an experienced individual who knows how to proceed the accountability cases. We will not pressurise him like the PTI rulers did during their government by making videos to blackmailing the institution,” he added.
