Ranikhet Springs up Again in Peacocks of Thar

For the past many years, birds of the region have been suffering due to the spread of the lethal disease and many species have already migrated from Thar

As many as 9 peacocks have died in the past two days in the Thar district of Sindh as the highly contagious Ranikhet (Newcastle disease) is infecting the beautiful dancing birds in the region.

Like previous years, the peacocks are biting the dust due to the widespread disease this year too and the authorities have turned a blind eye.

Owing to a fresh outbreak of Ranikhet, dozens of peacocks have contracted the viral disease and left the locals in fear.

The sudden spike in the cases has left the locals of Chachro tehsil of Thar appalled as so far, 9 peacocks have died and several others are suffering from Ranikhet.

The Sindh Wildlife Department seemingly brushed aside the threatening circumstances and the residents of the desert are fighting the crisis on their own.

The locals condemned Sindh government and maintained that the wildlife department did not have the means to control the disease neither they are striving for a solution.

“The birds are in dire need of vaccination and the beautiful species could be saved from becoming extinct in the region”, they added.

Contrarily, wildlife official Ijaz Talpur said that the death toll is increasing due to scorching temperature and weather changes.

The official informed News360 that some infected peacocks were sent to biological labs in Karachi for treatment.
