Rare Move: Deputy Speaker Suri Expels PPP Lawmaker from NA

Sergeant in arms called in to remove agitating PPP stalwart from house.

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri, who was chairing the session on Wednesday expelled Pakistan People’s party MNA Agha Rafiullah from house and called sergeant in arms to remove agitating lawmaker from house.

Amid the ruckus, PPP leader Agha Rafiullah Awan initiated cross-talk when the treasury benches began discussing the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s rallies.

After being warned that he was “getting personal”, Rafiullah was ordered to leave the assembly hall.

Former premier Raja Pervez Ashraf promptly apologised on Awan’s behalf and asked for the ruling to be withdrawn, but the deputy speaker refused to accept the apology and insisted on Rafiullah leaving the hall for at least one minute.

After being warned that disobeying the chair could lead to his suspension from the house, Rafiullah left the hall along with other opposition leaders and returned after a few minutes.
