Registration of Pet Dogs is Must, Restricts Clifton Cantonment

The decision came following an incident that took place a few days back when two pet dogs mauled a senior lawyer when he was out for a walk

A few days after a senior lawyer was attacked and injured by two pet dogs in the Defence area of the metropolitan city, Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) made registration of pet dogs mandatory for the owners.

The CBC has issued a notice under section 119 of the Cantonment Act 1924 and made it compulsory for all the residents to register their pet dogs.

“It has come to the notice of the CBC that residents of the Clifton Cantonment area are keeping pet dogs in their houses without registration of the same”, the notification read.

The notice further said that keeping unregistered dogs is illegal and thus the failure to comply with CBC can lead to fines, legal action, or remedies under the prevailing laws.

Not only this, the board made it compulsory for the owners to use collars with a metal token issued by CBC and to vaccinate the pets.

The registration fee will be Rs 2,000 per dog while the form will be available at Rs 250 and it will require the name of the owner, national identity card number, home address, and mobile phone number.

Meanwhile, the color, breed, and sex of the dog will be listed in the document.

The decision came following an incident that took place a few days back when two pet dogs mauled a lawyer, Mirza Akhter Ali, when he was out for a walk.

The victim bled for some time on-road and as per details shared by his son, the pet owner refused to help him and fled.

The decision by CBC was lauded by the residents of the cantonment area however a few believe that only registration would not work much unless proper training of the pets is ensured.
