Rehman Malik says ‘PPP to form its government very soon’

Former interior minister and PPP Senator Rehman Malik predicts that PPP will form its government in the Centre very soon.

ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister and Pakistan People’s Party’s Senator Rehman Malik has predicted that PPP will form its government in the Centre very soon.

Senator Rehman Malik made the statement while being interviewed by a private news channel. He said that the ruling political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is losing its grip day by day.

He claimed that PPP is coming into power very soon as the political party has the best option of a young leader in the shape of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. However, he did not clarify whether PPP is expected to come into power before the 2023 general election or after it.

He refused to share ‘all details’ before the media, however, he confirmed that Asif Ali Zardari has a strategy that will result in the formation of a PPP government.

While detailing the Benazir Bhutto murder case, Malik rejected the claims for not getting a conclusion of her assassination case. He said that he will strongly oppose such allegations.

He told the interviewer that PPP had requested then government for providing box security to BB but the plea was not granted nor she was allowed to bring personal security guards.

Rehman Malik said that only one police vehicle had been deployed for security duty on the assassination day of BB on December 27, 2007, and after the incident, the crime scene was washed out.

“After PPP came into power, the investigation was handed over to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and later a joint investigation team (JIT) comprised of experienced officers was formed.”

He added that the probe revealed that two suicide bombers had been deputed by Baitullah Mehsud and BB came out of her vehicle on her own. Prior to her assassination in Rawalpindi, then DG ISI held a meeting with Benazir Bhutto in which he was also present, said Malik.

The senator said that then DG ISI had talked about security threats but BB told him that she will go to the rally’s venue at any cost. She had asked then DG ISI to provide her with the necessary security. Benazir Bhutto had also told then DG ISI to convey her message to Pervez Musharraf to refrain from vote-rigging in the polls.
