Rise in Imported Makeup Prices Make Women Bite Nails

Most Pakistani women use imported makeup for beautification as they are unsure of the quality of local cosmetic products

Pakistani women are frustrated after the budget for the fiscal year 2021-2022 (FY22) as the government has increased customs duty on imported items including makeup products which will send their prices further high.

The government has jacked up customs duty on imported luxury items including cosmetic products and the situation is turning out to be a mare’s nest for women in Pakistan as the prices of various makeup products will go up.

The products including hair straighteners, hair color, shampoo, conditioners, etc would be available expensively from July 1, the beginning of the new fiscal year.

The measure has been taken to boost the local cosmetic industry but the women seem unsatisfied with the quality of products manufactured locally.

Most of them use imported makeup for beautification as they are unsure of the quality of local cosmetic products.

While talking to News360, the women said that makeup was fundamental for them.

They added that the local products’ quality was low and it was due to this reason that most of the women prefer imported brands.

They said ‘we cannot play with our skin’, reaffirming their vow to purchase cosmetics no matter where the prices reach.

The women told that good quality local brands were also considerably expensive and that is why they usually buy imported products as the price difference wasn’t much.

They lamented that the change in prices of imported makeup products after the budget would go heavy on their pockets but they would not keep off their brushes.
