The month of blessings has arrived and the Muslims around the world are busy arranging tables for suhoor and iftar. South Asian Muslims have a trend of decorating tables with fruits, chickpeas, and fritters along with a very traditional and famous drink of red color “Rooh Afza” in Ramazan.
Rooh Afza has been part of tables in South Asia for decades. The starting price of the beverage at the time of launch was just Rs 1 around 10 decades ago.

A history of Rooh Afza
Haji Abdul Majeed founded Hamdard Pharmacy in 1904 and started making herbal medicines to run the shop.
In year 1907, syrups of various fruits, flowers, and herbs were available individually including rose syrup, sandalwood, pomegranate, sangtra, keora syrup, etc.
These syrups were different in terms of their effectiveness and taste.
Hakim Ustad Hassan Khan summed up all his wisdom and experience of herbs in a recipe and prepared a drink and named it Rooh Afza.
