“Rulers & People Aspire to Join Pakistan”, Nawab of Junagadh

Kashmir and Junagadh both shared same fates and it was the right of the people to decide their political future

“Through belligerence and repression, India illegally occupied the state of Junagarh at the time of Indian subcontinent’s partition in 1947”, said the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Masood Khan during a meeting with Nawab of Junagadh, Muhammad Jahangir Khanji.

“The accession of Junagarh to Pakistan was in line with the partition plan of India”, he added.

The meeting, held at Kashmir House Islamabad, was led by Nawab of Junagadh and Diwan of Junagarh Sahibzada Sultan Ahmed Ali.

While briefing about the situation in Junagadh, a city in the Indian state of Gujrat, Jahangir Khanji expressed that the rulers along with people still vowed to accede to Pakistan and to date aspire to join it.

“It is a matter of international concern that was raised at United Nations (UN) in 1948 by then Foreign Minister of Pakistan”, informed Nawab Jahangir.

Once being the second-largest Muslim princely state in the subcontinent, Junagadh also enjoyed the privilege of the fifth-largest revenue-generating state.

“With an area of around 4,000 square miles, a 90-mile coastline, its own army, ports, railway, and postal system, Junagadh was a welfare state where education, health, and food was available to all without discrimination”, Jahangir Khanji said.

He was of the view that Kashmir and Junagadh both shared same fates and it was the right of the people to decide their political future.

During the meeting, Diwan of Junagadh informed AJK President Masood that efforts were made to set up Junagadh House in Islamabad and relevant authorities were approached in this regard.

While paying tribute to the forefathers of the Nawab, AJK President said, “We will continue our combine struggle for liberation of Kashmir and Junagadh from Indian illegal occupation”.
