Ruling PML-N makes finance minister Miftah Ismail a scapegoat

Critics have sharply criticised PM Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for their double standard and they should have allowed Miftah Ismail to make the announcement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made the announcements of the hike in petroleum products prices four times through Finance Minister Miftah Ismail but when it came to reducing the rates, he first announced it in a meeting with Maryam Nawaz and then came on TV and announced the reduction.

Critics have sharply criticised PM Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for their double standard and they should have allowed Miftah Ismail to make the announcement.

It may be recalled that the present government made announcements on May 26 and June 3 to increase the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs30.30 per litre, on June 15 by Rs 24.03 per litre and diesel by Rs 59.16 per litre. Later, it further hiked the petrol price up to Rs14.85/L and diesel up to Rs13.23/L on July 1.

Govt makes Rs18 reduction in petrol price after nearly Rs100 hike

Importantly, on all these occasions, instead of announcing the price hike himself, PM Sharif put forward the finance minister Ismail and when it came time to reduce the prices, he announced it in a meeting with PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz. Then he himself came on TV and announced a reduction in prices.

Critics have also criticized Maryam Nawaz for announcing the reduction in prices of petroleum products at the rally. Critics said that in what capacity is Maryam Nawaz announcing government decisions?
