Safdar Arrest: Senior Journalists Tweets Created Confusion

WEB DESK: Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, has been the focus since Monday morning. The day started with the news of arrest of Captain Retired Muhammad Safdar.

There is no official statement in this regard as to who ordered the police to break the door of Maryam Nawaz’s room in the morning and arrest her husband.

But the tweets of two of Pakistan’s most senior journalists have come to light, revealing the motives behind the filing of the FIR and the arrest of retired Captain Muhammad Safdar.

Hamid Mir, host of Pakistan’s private TV channel (Geo News) and a senior journalist, tweeted that the Sindh government had informed the PML-N that the Sindh IG police was allegedly abducted by Rangers and taken to the Sector Commander’s office, where the additional IG was already present. According to Hamid Mir’s tweet, IG Sindh was forced to issue the orders of Captain Retired Safdar.

Shortly after the tweet, Kamran Khan, another senior Pakistani journalist and president of Dunya Media Group, also tweeted.

In his Twitter messages, Kamran Khan said that the enthusiasm PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari showed in Jalsa, he should now either accept the resignation of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah with same zeal or punish those who kidnapped the IG Sindh.

In another Twitter message, Kamran Khan wrote, “PDM internal game has started, Maryam Bibi should should think twice before accepting the invitation to come to Sindh next time. Undeniable sources say that IG Sindh Mushtaq Mehr happily accepted the all the steps of arrest of Captain Safdar. The story of abduction etc. is for the consolation of Maryam Bibi.”

The tweets of these two senior journalists from two different media groups have done nothing but have created confusion for social media users. It has become difficult for them whom to believe and whom to not.
