ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist associated with Geo News Saleem Safi has seen an illogical conspiracy behind Omicron rise and the opposition’s upcoming long march in the month of March to which he blames the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led federal government and its allies.
Saleem Safi has surprised everyone by terming the rise in Omicron cases in the country an apparent government tactic to target the opposition’s long march.
The senior journalist and Geo News programme’s host Jirga said that the new variant of coronavirus, Omicron, spreads like wildfire and a steep rise of its cases was proof. He criticised the government personalities for neither using face masks nor taking effective steps to curb the Omicron spread.
Indirectly blaming the federal government over the sensitive situation, Safi expressed suspicions that it might be possible that Omicron is being deliberately spread to stop the advancements of the opposition’s long marches in the coming months.

Interestingly, the journalist’s tweet came amid an alarming situation in the country that is recording a consistent rise in COVID-19 positivity rate with the government’s back-to-back warnings and appeals to the people to strictly adopt precautionary measures.
However, the top personalities of the government were seemingly found violating the Covid SOPs by themselves, especially by not wearing the face masks and their appearances in crowded places.
On the other hand, the opposition leaders are also seen violating the Covid SOPs by holding back-to-back protests, meetings and public gatherings to mount pressure on the PTI-led government.
On many occasions, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had been spotted attending public gatherings and meetings without wearing face masks, whereas, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) head Maulana Fazlur Rehman was also among the prominent political personalities who are not following even the most basic precautionary guidelines.
Analysts said that everyone was trying to understand Safi’s logic for finding a connection between Omicron rise, the government’s deliberate attempt to spread the variant and the opposition’s long march when it is obvious that all of the people even from the government or opposition are vulnerable to contract the infection indiscriminately.
Netizens have registered a strong reaction in the comment box for Safi’s illogical findings.
A user commented that Saleem Safi should suggest the opposition parties hold their protest march at the earliest before March. If there is such a conspiracy, then why not organise the long march in January, the user censured.

Another user questioned the journalist to tell whether the government is also asking the opposition leaders for appearing in the photoshoots without wearing face masks during press conferences and wedding events.
