Saleem Safi has shared half-truth regarding the nomination of PS Azam Khan by PM Imran Khan to the World Bank (WB) executive director.
ISLAMABAD: Senior anchorperson of Geo News Saleem Safi has shared a half-truth regarding the nomination of principal secretary Azam Khan by Prime Minister Imran Khan to the position of the executive director of the World Bank (WB).
PM Imran Khan has approved the appointment of his principal secretary Azam Khan as the World Bank’s (WB) executive director for a four-year term. Azam is a civil servant who had also served as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief secretary.
Commenting over the appointment, Saleem Safi was of the view that Azam Khan renowned as the deputy prime minister has also parted way with Imran Khan.
He claimed that the principal secretary Azam Khan plays important role in every decision of Imran Khan but he chooses to silently approve his summary for his posting to the WB. The anchorperson said that more things are likely to be witnessed in the coming days.

The other side of the coin was Azam Khan’s appointment will come into effect in November or December this year but not with immediate effect as the current director Naveed Kamran Baloch’s tenure will expire in November.
Secondly, Azam Khan had reportedly secured the appointment as WB ED in February in accordance with the media reports. The media reports, however, suggested that the summary for the new executive director was supposed to be moved in June for approval in August or September.
According to The News, the four-year tenure of a World Bank executive director was changed to three years under the government of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
However, when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf came to power, the tenure of the World Bank executive director was further cut short to two years.
Many eyebrows were raised when Naveed Kamran Baloch was appointed for only two years. However, now it seems that this brief appointment was part of a larger plan to ensure Azam Khan gets the position after the current term ends, the English daily reported.
