Fake News: Samaa TV Gets The Taste Its Own Medicine

The channel had accused a British-Pakistani of protesting against ex-CJP at the behest of India

Fearing legal repercussions, Samaa TV withdrew from the fake news it had aired against a British-Pakistani, Professor Dr Syed Alam Shah three years ago.

The TV channel ran over a minute-long apology in the news bulletin.

Professor Dr Syed Alam Shah had protested outside Royal Nawab Hotel against ex-Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar in November 2018 during his London visit.

The TV channel shared the clip of the protest and linked it with an old footage of Dr Shah demonstrating outside the British parliament.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani shared the apology clip on his Twitter handle.

The channel had accused that the protester was not a Pakistani but an Indian citizen while it was also claimed that the act against CJP was done at the behest of India.

However, Samaa TV finally apologized after three years for sharing fake news and retracted from its allegations.

The education minister said that the channel must not run fake news instead of tendering an apology.

He added that, however, it would not affect Samaa TV as it would keep telling lies and offering apologies.

The provincial minister said the media group would also have to apologize to him like this.
