Dr Marryum Mehmood wrote on Twitter, “TW: DV murder. Her name was Sarah Inam. She was a successful policy professional. She was brutally murdered by her husband of 3months who bludgeoned her body w/a 40kg dumbbell. The killer’s father is a prominent 🇵🇰 journo. 🧵 on femicide of the ‘independent’ woman. #justiceforsarah”

Journalist and anchorperson Meher Bokhari said, “I went to college with Sarah Inam in Canada. The sweetest, kindest soul. Soft spoken, brilliant, majoring in Economics. This was her first marriage. She had worked at the best places, traveled the world & now wanted to settle down, build a strong healthy home.”

Stephen Nash wrote on Facebook, “My dearest friend Sarah Inam was brutally murdered by her husband of 3 months yesterday in Islamabad. Sarah was a bright light in this world. Just the kindest, smartest and gentest soul. She had such a sweet innocence and naivety… and that’s now been taken away by the actions of a cruel man. It’s unfathomable.”

“She was a voracious reader and thinker. I’ve never met anyone more passionate about economics, history and religion than Sarah. No matter where you found her, she would be engrossed in some book Sarah leaves behind a family she loved unendingly, her father, mother and two big brothers. Her friends from around the world – fra Pakistan to Canada and the United Arab Emirates – mourn the loss of this smart and beautiful woman, and demand justice for Sarah.”

“The world needed more Sarah’s, and now she’s been taken. #JusticeForSarah #enddomesticviolence”

The police said they recovered six mobile phones from the crime scene, out of which five of them belonged to Shahnawaz, while one of them was registered in the victim’s name.

Police added that the accused had broken one of his own as well as his wife’s phone with the dumbbells — the murder weapon — to erase the data.

All recovered phones have been sent for forensic analysis, the police said, per reports, adding that they will find out the reason behind the dispute between the couple by covering the data from the mobile phones.

According to media reports, the accused also cut the Canadian passport of the victim with scissors to make it invalid. Pieces of her passport, as well as the scissors, have been recovered from the site of the murder, the police said.
