SC dismisses expelled student’s plea for readmission at private school

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the petition filed by a student seeking his readmission at the private school after being expelled for misbehaving with educators and other students.

The Class 9 student named Rayan Ahmed had been expelled from a private school following his inappropriate behaviour with the educators and other students. Ahmed filed a petition against his expulsion from the school.

During the hearing, Ahmed’s lawyer argued that the schools could not permanently expel their students.

The chief justice remarked that education could also be continued while remaining at the home but schools are established to maintain discipline. The parents were not happy with the online classes as their children were not performing well in their academics, he observed. The chief justice remarked that whenever a child goes to school in a uniform, it was actually a disciplinary lesson to the individual.

Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed remarked that educators are the best judges and they possess an important identity in our society. He expressed outrage that parents should focus on civilising their children instead of just making the educators responsible. He continued that an educator will not become an enemy if he stops students from wrongdoing.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that they would have been facing physical punishment if students were found involved in misbehaving with the educators. Justice Ahmed remarked that those punishments given by the educators made them eligible to possess top positions in the country.

He continued that the state has failed to fulfil its responsibility. The judge censured the education authorities for issuing permits to many schools without any scrutiny.

Later, the Supreme Court dismissed the student’s petition for readmission at the school.
