SC Issues Notice to IHC Registrar in Lawyers’ Chambers Case
The chief justice of Pakistan remarked high court registrar did not take the court orders seriously
Pakistan’s Supreme Court (SC) has issued a contempt of court notice to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) registrar for not taking the court orders seriously.
It is one of the few instances in the judicial history of Pakistan that the registrar of a high court was served a contempt of court notice by the apex court.
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed presided over a case pertaining to demolition of lawyers’ chambers filed by Islamabad Bar Association (IBA).
The apex court had ruled against illegal chambers that were established on football grounds, footpaths, and greenbelts in Islamabad.
“The IHC registrar had done nothing and had not taken the order of the courts seriously and left the matter to his junior staff”, the chief justice remarked angrily.
Moreover, SC expressed dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the IHC registrar and issued a contempt of court notice to him and directed the registrar to file a reply within a week.

The chief justice remarked that the structure of the courts was dismantled due to their efforts.
Earlier, a four-member of IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah declared that the lawyers’ chambers were “illegal, void and without jurisdiction and authority” and IBA had moved against it in the SC.
